Facts only.
No jokes.
No sarcasm.
No “with feelings.”
“Good morning,” bati ni Don Augusto.
Simple lang ang boses.
Hindi galit.
Hindi malamig.
Pero may bigat pa rin.
“Good morning po, sir,” halos sabay na sagot nina Sora at Kevin.
Rafael looked at Sora.
At nakakainis iyon.
“Ms. Guillermo?” tawag ng HR officer.
“We can start.”
Napalingon si Sora kay Kevin.
Kevin leaned slightly closer.
“Facts,” bulong nito.
“Thank you for coming,” sabi ng HR officer.
“This is a clarification meeting regarding a workplace conduct concern raised after Saturday’s branch operations.”
Professional.
Buhay pa ang job description.
“We want to make clear,” dagdag ng HR officer, “this is not a disciplinary hearing.
We are here to gather facts, understand context, and document appropriate boundaries moving forward.”
Bahagyang nakahinga si Sora.
Hindi disciplinary.
Hindi pa siya ipapadala sa employment afterlife.
“Ms. Guillermo,” sabi ng HR officer, “were you uncomfortable with the coffee given to you at the branch?”
“Did you request the coffee?”
“No po.”
“Did you request any favor, work opportunity, or special assignment from Mr. Valderama?”
“No po.”
“Were you made to feel that accepting personal attention from him would affect your work standing?”
“No po,” sabi niya.
Rafael looked down.
Don Augusto remained quiet.
The HR officer nodded again.
“That’s clear.
Thank you.”
Lumipat ang tingin nito kay Rafael.
“Mr. Valderama?”
Rafael sat straighter.
“The coffee was my decision,” sabi niya.
“I brought team coffee during pilot observation.
I added the personal label to Ms. Guillermo’s drink.
It was inappropriate for the workplace because it created unnecessary attention around her.
She did not ask for it.
She did not encourage it during work.
And her inclusion in pilot review is based on documented field input and performance, not personal preference.”
“Moving forward,” sabi ng HR officer, “we recommend all project-related communication involving Ms. Guillermo go through Operations or Marketing, with Mr. Dizon copied.
Any work opportunities should be documented and role-based.
Personal communication should not happen during work operations.”
Tumango si Rafael.
“Agreed.”
Tumango rin si Kevin.
“Agreed.”
Napatingin ang HR officer kay Sora.
“Yes po,” sagot niya.
“Agree po.”
Doon nagsalita si Don Augusto.
“I want this documented,” sabi niya.
“Not because I believe Ms. Guillermo did anything wrong.
But because the company cannot afford unclear lines when a senior executive is involved.”
Don Augusto looked at Rafael.
“My son should have known better.”
Nanigas si Rafael, pero hindi siya umimik.
Sora blinked.
Ay.
Hindi pala siya ang sisermunan.
“Dad,” Rafael said quietly.
Don Augusto raised one hand.
Hindi galit.
Hindi dramatiko.
Pero sapat para tumahimik ang buong room.
“You can like someone,” sabi ni Don Augusto.
“You cannot make her carry the consequences of your liking.”
Parang may tumama sa dibdib ni Sora.
Hindi malakas.
Pero malalim.
Kevin, beside her, went completely still.
Don Augusto turned to Sora.
“Ms. Guillermo, your work on the pilot will continue.
Your notes were practical.
The field team needs that.
You will not be removed because of a coffee issue.”
Saglit na nawala ang boses ni Sora.
“Thank you po, sir.”
“Do your job well,” sabi ni Don Augusto.
“Opo.”
Then he looked back at Rafael.
“And you will do yours properly.”
Rafael nodded.
